Independent: Since she has come to live as a loner throughout her life, Gemma has found a way to stand firm upon her own two feet without the assistance of others. This has caused her to cut herself off from those who do try to come into her life. This independence that was thrust upon her created her other personality traits, such as resilience and strength. Hard-Headed: Gemma is seemingly stuck in her ways. She loves routine and it helps her feel somewhat normal. Too bad she isn't. This stubborn trait is echoed throughout her beliefs and how she feels. To her it either is or isn't there is no in between. Resilient: After the hardships in her life, Gemma finds herself still standing and living a normal life, mostly. She is able to block out pain and let insult or injury roll right off of her shoulder through past events. As they say, "Practice, practice, practice." Strong/Determined: Due to her independence, she has become an extremely strong-willed individual. She has a sturdy backbone and has grown to take words with a grain of salt. As characteristic of those full of strength come miles and miles of walls that they place around themselves to protect themselves. Gemma is no different as with each new betrayal from each new foster family and her ex-husband, she finds her walls becoming sturdier and sturdier. She hopes for someone brave enough to break them down bit by bit. Self-Loathing: She sometimes finds herself loathing the person she is. For four years she endured abuse from a man she loved, Gemma now finds herself believing she is less of a person. That she herself does not deserve true love. From this, Gemma finds that she loathes herself. Hopefully, someone can come along and show her that she is worthy of love.. Loyal: Gemma is undeniably loyal to those that are able to become close to her. She puts others before herself as she is not only loyal, but also undeniably kind.

"You are alone."These are the words her mother left her when she was abandoned outside an orphanage. Cybil, the manager of the orphanage, never thought too much into the neat scribed words upon the paper, but Gemma did. Those words seemed to forsee the rest of her years that followed. She found herself traveling family to family. Families deemed her as strange and as her mother had predicted, she was alone. When she finally reached the age of 17 and graduated out of the school system, she left and decided she would rather face the world alone. After those years of being loved then sudden disdain from her "parents," being alone came all too welcome. "These scars may fade, but you'll never forget me." When Gemma married Sam, she thought she would finally lead a life full of love and maybe even children. Soon she began to see that procreation should never be an option for Sam. He enjoyed violence more than most people. Soon she found that he held many demonic tendencies. He began with verbal abuse. He found her flaws and weaknesses, which exploited and used to emotionally destroy her. They became not only her reason to go, but also her reason to stay. Why would anyone love someone such as her? How could someone lover her if not even Sam could? How could you love someone who had no origin? No home. Gemma soon was able to ignore the comments and not take them to heart. She even found herself firing some in Sam's direction. As Sam felt his power slipping away over Gemma's suffering, he began to physically cause her pain. At first, he would just push her into sharp objects that protruded in various places. He pushed it further by burnng her with his cigarettes or anything else he could find. He took most pleasure burning her chest and thighs leaving welts and ash in his path. This was not enough to satisfy his sadism. He began to force her to perform sexual acts with him. He would drag her by the leg, arm or even hair into the bedroom before he would strip her. The humiliation was cast off of her with her clothes. Sam found her fear to be exhilarating. The physical wounds would heal quickly, but the emotional pain and torment never left. The only relief she found was when she was able to take classes at a nearby college. Even so, Gemma found herself sinking lower into self-loathing. When she thought she could take no more, Sam died after four years of emotional and physical abuse from asphyxiation. Lancaster, California Gemma soon after left the home they had shared with nothing but her BA in English and drove until she couldn't go anymore. She soon found herself working a job as a bartender at Leroux Night Club. Gemma found a house on a normal street in Copeland.
